San Joaquin County to pay $1.1 million to woman alleging sexual abuse by former sheriff’s sergeant
“In April 2023, the San Joaquin County Civil Grand Jury found that the county’s jail and juvenile hall had never completed legally required sexual abuse audits mandated by the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, signed into law in 2003. The grand jury said the failure left vulnerable individuals unprotected.”
